Dr. Lawrence Kim of South Denver Gastroenterology, who has dedicated 27 years to enhancing community-based practices began his term as the 120th president of the AGA Institute.
As president, Dr. Kim will ensure that AGA is an inclusive society for all gastroenterologists. He will cultivate relationships with clinicians, work to secure the viability of gastroenterology research, and champion the next generation of leaders in the specialty. Dr. Kim’s vision is rooted in patient-centered and evidence-based medicine, addressing the evolving challenges in the field.
At South Denver GI, Dr. Kim pioneered a part-time partnership model, boosting the representation of women to one-third of the practice, incorporated endoscopic ultrasound, initiated clinical research, and established a joint venture in gastrointestinal pathology.
Additionally, Dr. Kim spearheaded the creation of a joint venture in gastrointestinal pathology, linking three local practices, and helped establish South Denver Gastroenterology as one of the founding groups of the Digestive Health Physicians Association, the first organization focused on advocacy for independent gastroenterology practices.
Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Kim hails from a family of physicians. He graduated cum laude from Princeton and completed his medical degree at Johns Hopkins. During his fellowship at UCSF, he received the young clinicians award for his research on propofol for endoscopic sedation.
